With my brother and sister both having summer blogging assignments, I didn’t want to feel left out. So I too am back to blogging. Since we have last talked, I have become a big fan of books. Living in a household that has no televisions, more about that in future blogs, we all tend to grow up readers.
My parents take me to the Bedford Library weekly. The library is definitely the coolest place ever! I, like the rest of the family, get to check out books too. Here are two of my all time favorite for this month. By the way, they make great gifts if you are trying to buy something cool for a three year-old.

Pat Hutchins’s 32 page, “10 Red Apples,” is a fun repetitive story of ten red apples hanging on a tree. Yippee, fiddle-dee-fee! But they are not there for long. Horse, cow, donkey, pig, hen, and the other farm animals each eat one. “Save one for me,” calls the farmer. But what about the farmer’s wife? I love this story and find myself singing and counting “Save one for me.” This story focuses on counting from 10 down to 1, and I love reading it over and over. Two big thumbs up from me! |

Ann Jonas’s 40 page “Color Dance,” is a colorful story with a dance theme. The story is filled with children trailing and waving scarves of bright hues, who teach the principles of mixing primary colors. The book opens with three figures, one dressed in red, another in blue and a third in yellow, each carrying a matching banner and saying, “This is our dance.” It goes on to mix the colors to form other colors: “Orange is red and yellow mixed together. No blue.” I love this story as the colors are bright and I get introduced not to just basic colors but more rich words not found in a typical kids book. Color me two green thumbs! |
What are some of your favorite children books? How many books do you read to your little ones each day?
