Finally, I leave you with the hardest tip of all. It is absolutely paramount that you Daddy, take super care of Mommy. This takes precedence above your new baby, friends or even family. This will be a momentary stress point in your life. Take extra, extra care of mommy doing your very best to wait on her hand and foot. Depending on whether she had a c-section or not, stress of baby feeding or not, you need to pull yourself up by the boot straps and jump into overdrive with the Mommy focus. As the saying goes, “If Momma isn’t happy, nobody is happy!†Proper Mommy rest reduces postpartum and makes her recovery faster. As with most things you’ll learn about parenting—it’s not about you!

My dad guest blogs… Having completed the first week of my son Daniel’s life, it is the perfect time to reflect on a few nuggets of wisdom I wish I had known seven days ago before I experienced the hospital gig. Now most birthing mothers do a very good job of packing a hospital bag and doing some pre-planning for their hospital stay.
